TCM Experts Recommend: Autumn Lotus Root Can Clear Internal Heat and Prevent Stroke as an Effective Remedy

According to traditional Chinese medicine, raw lotus root is considered cold in nature and has the effects of promoting Qi circulation, facilitating water metabolism, nourishing the stomach, promoting fluid production, and clearing blockages in the body. It is particularly effective in preventing and treating hypertension. Additionally, small actions like opening the mouth and tapping the teeth, or shaking the head, can also help lower blood pressure and prevent strokes.

As the saying goes, "Food is better than medicine for nourishment." Autumn is the season when fresh lotus root becomes available. Regularly eating fresh lotus root can be very beneficial for preventing hypertension. Lotus root is also known as the "spiritual root," "lotus stem," or "rain grass," though it is most commonly referred to as "lotus root." Lotus root can generally be divided into three types: red-flowered, white-flowered, and twisted lotus root. Besides being a delicious vegetable, lotus root also has significant medicinal properties. Li Shizhen, in the Compendium of Materia Medica, praised lotus root as follows: "Though the lotus root grows in muddy and dirty conditions, it remains pure and white. It is soft in texture yet can penetrate hard soil. It grows low but has joints. Its holes are intricate, and its fibers are hidden within. From its tender state, it grows into stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, and then sprouts again, continuing the cycle of life. It can be eaten in all seasons and brings joy to the heart. Truly, it can be called the spiritual root."
